- Develop a network of local partners such municipalities, hospitals, NGOs and community based organisations.
- Broaden our reach by engaging and lobbying local and provincial government structures
Regional Activities
Regional offices were mandated to perform, amongst other things, the following critical roles:
- Run educational and community campaigns
- Distribute safety information
- Conduct incidence surveillance
- Support the Department of Minerals and Energy to establish Integrated Energy Centres for the sale of pre-packaged, uncontaminated paraffin
- Lobby Local and Provincial Governments; and
- Collaborate with Local and Provincial Governments, NGOs and Emergency & Fire Services to stop dangerous practices.
Community Mobilisation
A key strategic imperative of the association is to mobilise communities to own paraffin safety issues and to act upon them. The chosen method of intervention in this regard is to conduct focused intervention in specific areas. We call them “Area Specific Interventions”. They involve, collaborating on research, surveillance, community education, publicity and protest.
